Tura, Apr 25: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), has decried the use of poor quality materials in the construction of a road in Phulbari, West Garo Hills district.
The work in question is the reparing of the Agia – Medhipara – Phulbari – Tura (AMPT) road.
Repair on the road has begun for the stretch between Nidanpur to Koylaghat, beyond Phulbari.
The president of GSU – Phulbari, Francewell Marak, alleged that the contractors dumped extremely poor stones and chips which will not survive even for a day.
“We will not turn a blind eye to what is happening and suffer once again. The road has to be well reconstructed well and not last for only ten days,” Marak said.
Repair of the road is currently being undertaken by one Rashid Mondal and another Minaz Ali, though both works were allegedly sub contracted to them.
The entire stretch of AMPT road is set to be repaired after central funds were finally provided for its redevelopment.
