TURA, Apr 10: In a late report, hailstorm once again ravaged Rongjeng block in East Garo Hills district on Tuesday morning damaging houses and crops, authorities informed.
According to East Garo Hills district magistrate, Swapnil Tembe the hailstorm hit the area on Tuesday at around 7 am.
Tembe informed that the force of the hailstorm was such that it damaged the Pakregre Lower Primary School, near Rongjeng.
This school which was to house a polling station had to be shifted, the East Garo Hills deputy commissioner said. Polling will now be held at the Pakregre Upper Primary School.
“The assessment to ascertain the enormity of the damage caused by the hailstorm is currently underway. We will be able to provide the details of the extent of damage once the assessment is completed,” the East Garo Hills deputy commissioner said.
However, Tembe admitted that there has been some amount of damage.
It may be mentioned that this is the second hailstorm in under a week. On April 4 a similar hailstorm hit the area.
