High Court hears plea for CBI probe

Police informs court of involvement of some other persons

SHILLONG, Dec 6: The plea of Amita Sangma for a CBI inquiry into the attack on her and women rights and RTI activist Agnes Kharshiing was heard by the Meghalaya High Court on Thursday.

During the hearing the police, brought to the notice of the Court that there are some other persons involved as per the latest intelligence inputs and appropriate action as against them have also been initiated the Court was informed.

The names of those persons have been produced in a sealed envelope. The investigating officer in this case was present during the hearing.

During the hearing the latest status of the investigation was been filed.

The High Court said that perusal of the same revealed that various steps have been taken and some more cautious steps are required to be taken so that the progress of investigation is not hampered in any manner.

Meanwhile, the state’s Advocate General assured that the Police Department more particularly, the Investigating Officer and the Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hlls will to the best of their ability complete the investigation of the case at an earliest.

The High Court adjourned the matter for ten days even as it directed the police to file the latest status of investigation.

The next hearing in the case wil be heard on December 19.
