Tura, Sep 3: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has sought inquiry into allegation of the illegal appointment of a teacher in the Ashugre UP Deficit School.
The demand comes after a meeting was held between the villagers in Ashugre who sought the intervention of the GSU Mindikgre unit in South Garo Hills into the matter.
President of the unit, Greneth Sangma said, “Local candidates, with the requisite qualifications were not even given a chance to apply for the seat as the principal had already appointed someone into the post of an assistant teacher. The appointment was manipulated and did not follow the NCTE norms.”
The complaint was sent to the SDSEO of SGH.
The NGO added that the SMC was not following norms but supporting the candidate pushed forward by the secretary of the school managing committee.
“We want to know why the SMC did not allow other candidates to apply for the post and why someone was pushed forward. We demand a departmental inquiry into the matter so that this practice is stopped and those who deserve get the job and not someone pushed by any authority,” added Greneth.
