In a big reliefs to traders, government withdraws export fees on forest product

SHILLONG, Jan 13: In what can be termed as a major relief to exporters, the Meghalaya cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has decided to do away with Export Fees (Domestic Export) on certain forest product.

The forest product are broomstick, bay leaf, bamboo, firewood and minor minerals.

Speaking to the media person after the cabinet meeting here on Monday, deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the decision of the cabinet to do away with export fees after the forest department had received petitions from stakeholders.

He said that the cabinet decision will help the traders in generating revenue.

“All these years the state government was collecting “domestic export fees on forest produce” at a rate of Rs 1000 per truck,” the deputy chief minister said.
