UDP to contest GHADC polls

Shillong, Oct 30: The United Democratic Party today informed that they will be fielding its candidates to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

Speaking to reporters after a central executive committee meeting, UDP President Metbah Lyngdoh said that the party discussed candidates who will be contesting in the GHADC elections.

He added that elections to the council will be held within six months time.

The six-hour long CEC meeting also included discussions on various issues including the Meghalaya-Assam border dispute, the demand for addition of Khasi and Garo to the Eight Schedule, the demand for relaxation of age for government posts from 32 to 36 and more, Metbah stated.

He added that they also discussed how to strengthen the party as a whole.

Responding to allegations claiming that illegal coal mining and transportation is occurring in the state, the UDP President also stated that those making these allegations should bring written proof.
