Shillong, Mar 17: Power Minister James Sangma today informed the house that MeECL is examining bringing in a Director of Finance through lateral entry.
“We are examining bringing in Director Finance on the basis of lateral entry, because that would bring in a lot of value to the corporation, if you bring in a person with rich experience having worked outside in bigger corporations and bigger PSUs,” he stated.
The post is currently being held by the MeECL Chairman and Managing Director, Arunkumar Kembhavi.
In a supplementary by Rangsakona MLA Zenith Sangma on why the Board of Directors in MeECL has only three people, James stated that MeECL had written to the state government to provide for an officer to the post of Director of Finance.
“Unfortunately, the Department of Personnel has expressed their inability to do so because there is a shortage of officers,” he added.
Zenith then questioned as to why there are no representatives from the Finance and Planning Department in the board of directors.
The Minister responded by stating that the government has its representatives in MeECL as shareholders, and that it was not necessary for them to be in the board of directors since the board manages daily nitti-gritty functioning of the corporation.
East Shillong MLA Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh suggested bringing in technocrats to be a part of the board, to which James stated that they will examine the matter.
