Jyllud re-arrested after escaping police custody

SHILLONG, Mar 13: A hardcore criminal popularly known as “Phantom” or “bah jyllud” who escaped police custody last week was re-arrested on Wednesday evening from Madanryting, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police (City) , Steve Rynjah, the criminal whose real name is David Lyngdoh was nabbed by East Khasi hills police from an area in Madanryting at 5 pm.

He was arrested when he was about to enter a cyber café in Madanryting, Rynjah informed.

Rynjah also said, “We arrested Jyllud under Section 244 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful appre¬hension) of the Indian Penal Code.”
It may be reminded that on March 6, Phantom escaped while he was kept in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills.

While he was under custody he sought permissions from the guards to relieve himself.

As soon as he was allowed to go, he locked it from inside and made good his escape through a ventilation in the toilet.

He has around 39 cases against him in East Khasi Hills district.
