KHNAM legislator takes up recruitment of non-locals in Meghalaya Rural Bank

SHILLONG, Mar 23: Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum, on Friday took up the issue of recruitment of non-locals without adhering to the state’s reservation policy in the Meghalaya Rural bank.

Taking up the issue in the as a zero hour notice, Nongrum said that the Bank which is known as a regional rural bank has recruited people who have no knowledge about the state and also of the local languages.

“How do we except from the new recruits from outside the state to communicate and develop a relationship with people? Since, their duty is to communicate and help people, through the branches, in far flung areas of the State,” the KHNAM legislator fgrom North Shillong stated.

He pointed out that earlier, during recruitments it was made mandatory for Meghalaya Rural Banks aspirants to read learn and write a local language.

“This is a concern for everyone as in the long run, it will also affect the business of the bank which the State Govt has a stake of 15 percent,” Nongrum said.

The KHNAM legislator told the House that most of the new recruits are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and the bank followed its own reservation policy without complying with the State’s Reservation Policy of 40 Khasi & Jaintia candidates, 40 Garo candidates; three for other tribes and 17 for General category candidates.
