SHILLONG, Mar 26: The candidature of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) candidate THS Bonney and CPI nominee Justice Kharbasanti hangs in the balance after the Returning Officer withheld their candidature.
During scrutiny of the nomination papers on today, Bonney’s candidature was opposed following the High Court order re-instating Pyndapborthiaw Saibon as KHNAM’s president.
The Returning officer of the Shillong parliamentary seat Abhishek Bhagotia told media persons that Bonney filed his papers as a KHNAM nominee.
However, Saibon lodged formal objections requesting not to accept form “A” and “B”. The two forms relates to attestation of a party nominee and a party office bearer.
On CPI candidate, Khabasanti’s nomination papers, his papers were kept in abeyance after receiving an objection from a bank for not disclosing his loans and unpaid interest.
On being asked on the fate of these two aspirants, the Returning Officer said, “We have served notice based on the objections, they will have to give their submissions before we comes out with any observation”.
The date for Bonney to make his submissions is on Wednesday, while Kharbasanti has time till Thursday.
