Tura, Jan 28: The North Garo Hills (NGH) police arrested two criminals for their involvement in the kidnapping of a driver from Assam near the village of Dingok under Bajengdoba PS.
The duo were arrested on Jan 26 while a third member of the gang, who managed to escape their clutches.
On Jan 24, early morning, the group of armed criminals stopped a Bolero vehicle coming from Assam near the village of Dingok where they forcefully took the driver in their custody. The other occupants of the vehicle however delayed reporting to the nearest police station but went to the town of Tura to file a complaint.
After the filing of the complaint, the NGH police were informed on the matter following which a manhunt began for the criminals as well as to rescue the victim, identified as Rahim Manuar Ali.
“After continuous search operations by the two police stations of Resubelpara and Bajengdoba, the criminals were traced to Raja Apal from where they were caught and the victim rescued unharmed. The two abductors were arrested and the arms used in the act also recovered. A third member has managed to escape and search for him is currently on,” said superintendent of police, NGH, Abraham T Sangma.
The weapons included country made rifles.
The two criminals have been identified as Rupen Marak (36) and Danseng G Momin (20). Rupen is a habitual criminal and was out on bail. Both of them are residents of the village of Raja Apal under Bajengdoba PS.
