Shillong, March 11: The ruling parties in Meghalaya have decided to field Jemino Mawthoh, general secretary of the United Democratic Party, as the common candidate for the coming election to Lok Sabha from Shillong constituency and Agatha Sangma from Tura seat.
The polling will be held on April 11 next.
The decision to field common candidates was taken at a joint meeting of the National People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), HSPDP, PDF and Independent MLA from Nongkrem on Monday evening at the residence of UDP president, Dr Donkupar Roy.
Leaders, who attended the meeting of the ruling parties excluding the BJP included Dr Donkupar Roy, Conrad Sangma, Prestone Tynsong, Dr W Kharlukhi, Bindo Lanong, Banteidor Lyngdoh, Lambok Malngiang and others.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr Donkupar Roy said the MDA will unitedly fight the election from both Shillong and Tura.
He also informed that Jemino will will stand on the symbol of the UDP and Agatha with the book of the NPP as its symbol.
Meanwhile, the UDP president informed that the BJP is not part of the MDA for the election.
Recently, the BJP had said that it will go alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and field candidates on the two Parliamentary seats–Tura and Shillong.
