SHILLONG, Aug 27: Political novice and giant killer, Pius Marweiñ of the United Democratic Party (UDP), soon after he was declared victorious in the Ranikor by-poll said that he aims to uplift the economy of the constituency in the next five years.
Marweiñ said that since the general assembly election held in February 27, he deeply wanted to carry the burden of problems of the people in the constituency, but unfortunately he loss the poll by 2002 votes.
“All of us did not expect that we will have a by-election. Soon after the dates were declared all of us worked hard till our objective was achieved,” he said.
“We have seen the hardships while travelling on the roads. Even healthcare, drinking water and education is lacking”, Marweiñ said.
According to him the foremost agenda after his election as an MLA of the constituency is to have better roads which are the backbone of development.
Marweiñ also said that apart from bad roads the constituency lacks in education even as he added that Ranikor does not have even one college.
Meanwhile, on the issue of Uranium mining issue and the NGT ban on coal mining, Marweiñ said that he will go with the voice of the people.
When pointedly asked on his views on the NGT ban on coal mining and the proposed Uranim mining Marwein said, “coal mining is a source of livelihood not only to the locals here but also for other inhabitants of the the state.”
It may be mentioned that Uranium deposit is fairly huge in Ranikor constituency.
On Uranium mining he said, “I will go with the voice and wish of the people.”
