MeECL CMD warns against protest by engineers’ association

Shillong, Aug 11: The Chairperson-cum-Managing Director of MeECL A. Nikhla, justified the suspension order placed on a resident engineer ML Pohshna, stating that the government of Meghalaya has prohibited strikes in any essential services.

She informed that in order to prevent any disruption and breakdown of emergency services to the public, such prohibition is in force for a period of six months.

In response to MeCL Engineers’ Association declaration to wear black badges, carry placards and stick banners on Tuesday as a sign of protest, she stated that in carrying out such action “the time and attention of the persons employed would be diverted from the time and attention required for the performance of their service and the same could lead to disruption of the essential service/duty rendered by the MeECL.”

She also stated that future agitations would be deemed illegal under the The Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act 1980 Act and would be liable for action.
