Meerut Case: Mother expresses gratitude for daughter’s safe return

Shillong, Sept 5: The mother of the victim rescued from Meerut, on Saturday, expressed gratitude to everyone who aided in the rescue of her daughter, who was wrongfully confined at the residence of her colleague.

Speaking at a press conference the victim’s mother informed that her daughter was wrongfully confined by her colleague since the lockdown and she had found out about the incident only after her daughter texted her to save her.

She said that her daughter had gone to work in Delhi in the month of January and that she was residing with her aunt. When the lockdown was announced, her colleague invited her to his residence in Meerut.

Advocate Amit Joshi revealed that the victim was physically and mentally assaulted and even sedated by the accused. On being made aware of the incident, an FIR was filed in Madanrting Police Station which was forwarded to Meerut Police Station.

Nongrem MLA Lambor Malngiang, who helped fasten the process of the rescue, also revealed that the accused even tried to convert the victim’s religion. On the rescue, he stated that it was his responsibility to help people of his constituency.

Malngiang also urged youth of the state to be cautious when working outside the state. He said that parents should ensure that the location of work and stay is safe before sending their children outside to work.

Meanwhile, the accused was arrested by Meerut Police on August 28. He has been arrested under sections 364 (kidnapping), 323(assault) and 342(wrongful confinement) of the IPC and other sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
