Megh govt. submits additional memorandum to finance commission

New Delhi, July 16: Meghalaya has submitted a supplementary memorandum to the Finance Commission to the tune of Rs 4, 340 crore.

On Monday, Chef Minister, Conrad K Sangma met the chairman of the 15th Finance Commission Nand Kishore Singh and discussed different flagship initiatives taken up by the state government.

The Chief Minister once again highlighted the efforts being made by the state Government to fast track development works in the key sectors of Human Development, Primary Sector, Infrastructure Development and Enterprise Development.

In his short short supplementary memorandum to the Chairman of the Finance Commission, Conrad highlighted four key projects for the state and requested assistance for implementation of the projects during the 2020-25 period.

The four projects are to conduct the 39th edition of the National Games in 2022, development of the state as a high-value tourism destination, building cable propelled transportation system (cable-cars/ ropeways) as long- term solution to decongest Shillong city and setting up of a University of Culture in the state.

The government said that it is hopeful that the Finance Commission will favourably consider grants-in-aid support to the State for the implementation of these projects.

Conrad also met, Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and apprised her on steps the government of Meghalaya has initiated to increase its revenue and have sought for support for funding key projects envisaged by the government.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by state Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh.

Earlier, last month, when a 15th Finance Commission visited the state, Meghalaya has projected a pre-devolution deficit of Rs 62,870 crores for the award period of 2020-2025.
