Meghalaya cabinet approves changes in Meghalaya Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 2016

Shillong, Dec 20: The state cabinet has brought certain changes in the Meghalaya Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 2016.

Speaking to media persons after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) has been authorised to issue non forest certificates to mining site.

The DFO can issue non forest certificates to site having an area of less than 5 hectares.

According to Tynsong, earlier, non forest certificates was issued by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest.

The deputy chief minister also informed that the Mining Engineer or the Divisional Mining Officer of the Directorate of Mineral Resources has now been authorised to approve the mining plan.

The deputy chief minister also informed that the cabinet has approved the proposal of the Mining and Geology Department to enhance the rate of royalty of different grade of minor minerals.

The deputy chief minister informed that the rate of ordinary sand has been increased from Rs 90 per cubic metre to Rs 110 per cubic metre. The rateof limestone has been hiked from Rs 80 per metric ton to Rs 100 per metric ton.

The rate of slate has been increased from Rs 45 to Rs 100 per metric ton.

The rate of shale has increased from Rs 60 per metric ton to Rs 100 per metric ton.

Quartz from Rs 55 per metric ton to Rs 100 per metric ton, clay from Rs 40 per metric ton to Rs 100 per metric ton and gypsum from Rs 40 per metric ton to Rs 100 per metric ton.
