Meghalaya govt slashes prices of petrol & diesel by Rs 2.50

SHILLONG, Oct 10: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday, slashed the price of fuel by Rs 2.50.

The decision to cut the prices of petrol and diesel was taken during the cabinet meet held at the state secretariat.

However, deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong informed media persons that the decision to bring down fuel prices in the state will cost the state’s exchequer dearly.

Already reeling under financial crunch, the cut in the fuel prices will lead the state government to incur extra expenditure of Rs 15 crore annually.

“The new price of petrol and diesel will be effective from Thursday morning,” Tynsong told media persons.

According to Tynsong, the Government would have been able provide various allied services to the people with the Rs 15 crore revenue loss due to slashing in prices of petrol and diesel.

The deputy chief minister, however said that the decision to cut the prices of fuel was taken in view of the escalating of prices of the petroleum products.

Tynsong also informed that in view of the state’s poor financial position and the loss of Rs 15 crore revenue due to the cut in fuel prices Tynsong said that the Government has entrusted certain departments to help in generating additional revenue.
