Meghalaya: MLAs get tested for Covid-19

Shillong, Sept 3: As an additional measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the Assembly Secretariat on Thursday prepared COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests for Members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at MLA Hostel.

Four members have tested themselves – Gavin Mylliemngap, Marcuise Marak, Ferlin C.A Sangma, Brening A. Sangma. The results of all the four MLAs were negative.

Willam Nagar MLA Marcuise N Marak expressed relief after testing negative for COVID-19. He also appealed to all MLAs to make use of the facility and get tested.

“The best part is results are out within 15 minutes, therefore all your anxieties and tensions are over within 15 minutes so I would like to request everyone – anyway we have to go for this test because we cannot take any chances,” Marak said.

Speaking to Shillong Mail, Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliemngap thanked officials of the Health Department.

“I want to thank officials of the Health Department, the doctors, nurses who came to conduct the rapid antigen test here in MLA hostel. My test came out negative but one good thing about this rapid antigen test is that I received the report in under 30 mins. I feel relieved,” he said.

The Sohra MLA also appealed to the public to follow the SOPs provided by the health department, like wearing masks, social distancing and sanitising hands.

“The public should not fear, come forward and get tested,” he added.
