Meghalaya records 35 new COVID-19 cases, 34 recoveries

Shillong, Aug 14: Meghalaya recorded 35 new COVID-19 cases and 34 recoveries on Friday.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that of the 35 new cases, 14 are from East Khasi Hills (BSF seven and civilians seven), South West Garo Hills one and West Garo Hills 20 (BSF 16 and civilians four).

Dr. Warr informed that three tested positive during random testing at Phulbari CHC and one works in a corona care centre in West Garo Hills, three are high risk contacts in East Khasi Hills, one resides in Upper Shillong and two others in Mawlai Nongkwar, one is a SARI case from Mawbah and another is a person with no travel history from Rilbong.

He also said that other civilian cases in East Khasi Hills, includes a staff nurse of Civil Hospital Shillong, and a returnee from Haryana.

Dr. Warr also informed that the single case detected in South West Garo Hills is a returnee from Assam.

With 35 new cases, the State now has 641 active cases out of which 419 are in East Khasi Hills (BSF 85, armed forces 71 and civilians 263), West Khasi Hills three, South West Khasi Hills one, Ri-Bhoi 83, West Jaintia Hills 16, East Jaintia Hills five, West Garo Hills 102, South West Garo Hills three, South Garo Hills three and North Garo Hills six.

The State also recorded 34 recoveries with this the total number of recovered cases has gone up to 581.

East Khasi Hills accounted 31 recovered cases – out of which one is from the armed forces, eight are BSF personnel and 22 are civilians.

In West Garo Hills two BSF personnel recovered while in East Jaintia Hills one civilian recovered.

Meanwhile, Dr. Warr also informed that the number of samples sent for testing till Friday afternoon is 42910 out of which 41425 results yielded negative results and the reports of approximately 257 samples are awaited.

Also a total of 27767 citizens have entered the State till Friday afternoon.
