Meghalaya records 39 new COVID-19 cases, six recoveries

Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded 39 new COVID-19 cases, health authorities informed. 

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that of the 39 cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 27 cases – Border Security Force (BSF) 11, armed forces seven and others – nine, Ri-Bhoi – three, East Jaintia Hills – one, South West Garo Hills – one and West Garo Hills – seven (BSF – two and others – five). 

Dr. Warr informed that the total active cases now stands at 766 with East Khasi Hills recording the maximum number of cases – 446 (BSF – 80, armed forces – 77 and others – 289), West Khasi Hills – three, South West Khasi Hills – one, Ri-Bhoi – 103, West Jaintia Hills – four, East Jaintia Hills – six, West Garo Hills – 189, South West Garo Hills – four, South Garo Hills – two and North Garo Hills – eight. 

The state also recorded six recoveries on Tuesday, with East Khasi Hills accounting for four of those – BSF three and others one, West Garo Hills which recorded two recoveries, one of a BSF personnel and another of a civilian. So far the State now has a total of 685 recoveries. 

Dr. Warr informed that of the 27 people who tested positive in East Khasi Hills BSF – 11, armed forces – seven, and others nine (three are returnees from Assam, four tested positive during random testing at Rilbong, one is a contact of a positive person at MIMHANS and another is a contact of a police personnel who tested positive. 

The Director of Health Services also informed that of the three people who tested positive in Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday, three are high risk contacts of a positive person and one is a high risk contact of a positive person at Mawsmai near the inter state border with Assam. 

In East Jaintia Hills the one person who tested positive is a returnee from Dubai, in South West Garo Hills the lone case is that of a returnee from Silchar, Assam and in West Garo Hills – two are BSF personnel, one is a returnee from Assam and four tested positive during random testing at Tikrikilla. 

Meanwhile, the number of samples sent for testing till Tuesday afternoon is 44234, a totat of 42330 samples tested negative and the report of 447 samples are awaited. 

Moreover, a total of 28793 citizens of the state has entered Meghalaya so far.
