Meghalaya records 41 new cases, spike in civilian cases

SHILLONG, Jul 28: Meghalaya recorded 41 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the health department said.

Director of Health Services, (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that East Khasi Hills recorded 36 of these new cases out of which the armed forces were six, CRPF two, civilians 28.

West Jaintia Hills three, West Khasi Hills one and West Garo Hills one.

The total active cases as on Tuesday are 580, with East Khasi Hills recording the majority of the cases 489 (BSF 243, Armed Forces 32 and civilians 204).

West Khasi Hills has four active cases, Ri-Bhoi 52, West Jaintia Hills 13, East Jaintia Hills 15, West Garo Hills 11, South West Garo Hills four, East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills one each.

The total number of recovered cases as of Tuesday is 194.

The number of samples sent for testing till Tuesday afternoon is 35021, the number of test yielded negative is 33492 and results awaited are 750.

Dr. Warr also informed that a 47-year old woman patient who died in NEIGRIHMS on Tuesday afternoon was not due to COVID -19.

“She had other ailments and she had contacted the virus,” the Director of Health Services informed.

The patient is the wife of a BSF personnel.
