SHILLONG, Jul 26: Meghalaya recorded 56 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the total active cases to 562.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that East Khasi Hills recorded 37 new cases, out of which 23 are from the Border Security Force (BSF), four from the Armed Forces and nine civilians, West Khasi Hills – three, Ri-Bhoi – nine (Armed Forces – four, civilians – five), North Garo Hills – one, West Jaintia Hills – one and East Jaintia Hills – five.
Of the 56 new cases, East Jaintia Hills which recorded five new cases, four are contacts of a person who tested positive during the random testing and one is a staff of Pamra Paithlu PHC.
“We are now finding out how did this person contracted the virus,” Dr. Warr said.
West Jaintia Hills which recorded one new case on Sunday, is a returnee from Assam, while in West Khasi Hills, of the three recorded cases, one is a returnee from Assam and two are returnees from Delhi, all three are Meghalaya Police personnel.
Ri-Bhoi district which recorded nine new cases, five are armed forces personnel at Rangmen, three are civilians who came back from Assam and one is an attendant at RP Chest Hospital, Shillong.
The one positive case recorded from North Garo Hills is of an employee of the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited who returned from Assam.
In East Khasi Hills of the 37 new cases, four are armed forces personnel, 23 are BSF personnel, two of whom returned from before July 23 to the State and the rest are in Umpling and another is a CRPF returnee.
Of the civilians in East Khasi Hills, four are returnees, two each from Assam and Bihar and three are contacts of a staff nurse working at NEIGRIHMS who are residents of Marbisu, one is a contact of a positive case in Mawpat and another is positive case from Laitumkhrah.
The district wise positive case are – East Khasi Hills – 462 (BSF – 270, civilians – 167, armed forces – 25), West Khasi Hills – three, Ri-Bhoi – 50, West Jaintia Hills – 10, East Jaintia Hills – 13, West Garo Hills – 15, South West Garo Hills – four, South Garo Hills – 2, East Garo Hills – one and North Garo Hills – 2.
On Sunday 41 case recovered (East Khasi Hills – 39 all BSF and two civilians). Till date a total of 135 people have recovered from the virus.
