Meghalaya records 59 new cases, total active cases now stands at 1179

SHILLONG, Aug 24: Meghalaya on Monday recorded another 59 COVID-19 cases, taking the total active cases to 1179.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister, A. L. Hek informed that of the new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded the most with 55 – armed forces/paramilitary forces – nine, others – 46 and Ri-Bhoi – four (others – two and armed and paramilitary forces – two). 

The district wise break up of the cases are – East Khasi Hills – 769, West Garo Hills – 223, Ri-Bhoi – 98, West Khasi Hills –  43, North Garo Hills – 12, South Garo Hills – 12, East Jaintia Hils – 12, East Garo Hills – three, South West Garo Hills – two, 

West Jaintia Hills – two and South West Khasi – one. 

Hek also informed that Meghalaya also recorded 13 new recoveries on Monday – West Khasi Hills – one, West Jaintia Hills – one, East Jaintia Hills – two and East Khasi Hills – nine. The total recoveries recorded so far are 789.

The samples sent for testing so far are 75239 out of which 72824 samples tested negative and the report of 439 samples are awaited. 

The number of people who has entered Meghalaya till Monday afternoon are 30470.

Hek informed that of the new cases in East Khasi Hills, apart from the nine who are from the armed forces and paramilitary, the break up of the remaining are, one is a patient at Nazareth Hospital, 29 are high risk cases, one is a low risk case, two are positive cases at Motphran random testing, three are positive cases at Anjalee random testing, two are positive cases at Khyndailad random testing, one is an individual, one is a contact of a positive person, one is a returnee, five ate staff nurses at Nazareth Hospital, while in Ri-Bhoi one is a high risk contact and another is an individual.
