Meghalaya records 73 recoveries, 72 new COVID-19 cases

SHILLONG, Sep 1: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded, 72 new COVID-19 cases and 73 recoveries, the health department informed.

Of the 72 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded, 54 (armed/paramilitary forces – two and others 50), West Garo Hills – seven (armed/paramilitary forces – three and others – four), Ri-Bhoi district – five, East Garo Hills – four and South Garo Hills – two all from the others category.

The total active cases in Meghalaya now stands at – 1193, with East Khasi Hills accounting for the most cases – 841 (armed/paramilitary forces – 209, others – 632), West Garo Hills – 118 (armed/paramilitary forces – 78, others – 40), East Garo Hills – 81 all others, Ri-Bhoi – 60 (armed/paramilitary forces – six and others – 54), West Khasi Hill – 45 from the others category, East Jaintia Hills – 18 others category, South Garo Hills – 16 (armed/paramilitary forces – 11, others- five), North Garo Hills – nine all others, South West Garo Hills – three from the others category and West Jaintia Hills – two active cases from others category.

Meanwhile, out of the 73 new recoveries, East Khasi Hills has 65 cases (armed/paramilitary forces – 12 and others 53), West Garo Hills – five (armed/paramilitary forces – one, others – four) and East Garo Hills – three from the others category. The state now has 1235 recovered cases and 12 deaths.

It may be mentioned that on Tuesday night, two more Covid-19 deaths were reported in Meghalaya taking the tally of patient who died from the pandemic to 12.

The number of samples sent for testing till date are 90477, with 87455 people testing negative and the number of results awaited are 582.

The number of entrants from outside of Meghalaya till Tuesday afternoon are 32842.
