Meghalaya records another COVID-19 death, toll jumps to 16

SHILLONG, Sep 6: Meghalaya has recorded another COVID-19 death taking the number of fatalities due to the virus to 16, the health department informed on Sunday.

According to, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War, the deceased, Dinabandhu Roy, 59 years of Pynthorumkhrah was admitted at the Nazareth Hospital on September 6 at 10.30 am.

According to Dr. War the deceased had Diabetes Mellitus with Myocardial Infarction with Covid 19 and expired at 1.15 pm.

Meanwhile, the State recorded 88 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday taking the tally of active cases to 1433.

The district wise break up of the new cases are, East Khasi Hills 35 – armed and paramilitary forces – 15, others – 20, West Garo Hills 39 – armed and paramilitary forces – 12, others – 27, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills – four each all from the others category, East Jaintia Hills – three from the others category, Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills recorded one cases each all from the others category.

The district wise break up of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills – 945 (armed and paramilitary forces – 181, others – 764), West Garo Hills 174 (armed and paramilitary forces – 104 and others – 70), Ri-Bhoi 117 (armed and paramilitary forces – 29, others – 88), East Garo Hills – 97, West Khasi Hills – 31, East Jaintia Hills – 28, South Garo Hills – 15, North Garo Hills – 12, West Jaintia Hills – nine, South West Garo Hills – four and South West Khasi Hills – one.

Meghalaya on Sunday also recorded 29 new recoveries, South Garo Hills – 11 all from the armed and paramilitary forces, West Garo Hills 10 (armed and paramilitary forces – six and others – four), East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi recorded four recoveries each. The total number of recovered cases now stands at 1556.
