Meghalaya records another COVID-19 death, toll rises to 124

Shillong, Dec 11: The state today recorded one more COVID-19 death taking the number of fatalities due to the virus to 124, health authorities informed.

The death has been identified as KK Paul (55) of Mawbah locality. The deceased was brought to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on December 7 at 6 pm.

“He was declared brought dead,” health authorities informed.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that the State recorded 59 new cases with East Khasi Hills recording 50 cases (armed/paramilitary forces – eight and others 42), West Jaintia Hills – five, Ri-Bhoi – two, East Garo Hills – one and South West Garo Hills – one.

Dr. War also informed that of the 44 recovered cases, East Khasi Hills registered 26 (armed/paramilitary forces – four and others 22), East Garo Hills – nine, West Garo Hills six (armed/paramilitary forces – one and others – five), West Khasi Hills – two and East Jaintia Hills – one.

With this the number of active cases in the state is now 594 and the number of recovered cases now stands at 11927.

Dr. War also informed that the number of persons tested for COVID-19 is 2, 63, 433 out of which 2, 50, 788 samples yielded negative results.

Dr. War also informed that till Friday afternoon a total of 70, 244 persons have entered Meghalaya.
