Meghalaya records four more COVID-19 deaths toll rises to 68

SHILLONG, Oct 13: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded, four more deaths due to COVID-19 taking the toll to 68, health officials informed.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that on October 12, Indu Dev Sahni (40) of Jhalupara, Beat House complained of breathlessness and she was declared brought dead to Nazareth Hospital at around 11:20 pm. She tested positive for the virus.

Dr. War also informed that on the same day, Iohhun Khongkrom (18) of Pynursla, was referred to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on October 11 from Ganesh Das Hospital, where she was being treated since September 28 to October 10.

“While in Ganesh Das Hospital she had tested negative for COVID-19 done through rapid test. In NEIGRIHMS she tested positive through CBNAAT,” the Director of Health Services said.

She expired on October 12 at around 2:05 pm and the cause of death was septic shock with severe sepsis, acute kidney injury and COVID-19 positive.

Ginalin Kurkalang (33) of 5th Mile was admitted to the Dr. H. Gordon Robert’s Hospital on October 12, she complained of breathlessness and subsequently died on October 13 at around 6:45 am.

“The cause of death was COVID-19 positive with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, acute renal failure with diabetes mellitus type I,” Dr. War said.

Morning Niangti (80) of Qualapatty was admitted to Dr. H. Gordon Robert’s Hospital on October 9 and died on October 13 at 3:10 pm.

His diagnosis was COVID-19 pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome and diabetes mellitus type II.

Meanwhile, the State also recorded 67 new cases and 133 new recoveries on Tuesday.

With this the total number of active cases now stands at 2367, while the total recovered cases are 5406.

Of the new cases recorded today, East Khasi Hills has 45, West Garo Hills 10, Ri-Bhoi five, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills two each, East Jaintia Hills one, South West Garo Hills one and West Jaintia Hills one.

Of the 133 recovered cases East Khasi Hills recorded 95, West Garo Hills 19, East Jaintia Hills 11, Ri-Bhoi three, East Garo Hills two, South West Garo Hills two and West Jaintia Hills one.

The number of samples tested till date are 176348 out of which 168500 were negative and the number of entrants into Meghalaya till date are 47663.
