SHILLONG, Aug 15: Meghalaya witnessed the highest spike of COVID-19 cases so far in a single day, recording 64 positive cases on Saturday.
Out of these 64 cases, West Garo Hills district recorded the highest cases with 34 cases, Border Security Force (BSF) eight and civilians 26.
Nineteen were recorded in East Khasi Hills – BSF two, one from the armed forces and 16 civilians, Ri-Bhoi recorded nine cases, all civilians and in North Garo Hills, two from the Central Reserve Police Force tested positive.
With the new cases, the total number of active ones now stands at 690.
East Khasi Hills has 438 – Civilians – 279, BSF – 87 and armed forces – 72, West Khasi Hills has three cases, South West Khasi Hills one, Ri-Bhoi 89, West Jaintia Hills six, East Jaintia Hills five, West Garo Hills – 135, South West Garo Hills – three, South Garo Hills – two and North Garo Hills – eight.
Meanwhile, the State recorded 15 recoveries taking the number to 596.
West Jaintia Hills recorded ten recoveries, all civilians, Ri-Bhoi three (one from the armed forces and two civilians), West Garo Hills one BSF and in South Garo Hills one civilian recovered.
