Meghalaya records nine COVID-19 deaths

SHILLONG, Aug 27: Meghalaya on Thursday recorded another COVID-19 death after the health authorities decided to declare the person who died on Wednesday of dying due to the virus.

With this latest case, the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 has gone up to nine in the state.

It may be mentioned that 70-year-old, Rajendra Shah, was brought dead to Shillong Civil Hospital on Wednesday evening, and he was the resident of 29 Cantonment Anjalee.

On Wednesday, the deceased was not counted as COVID-19 death case, pending a decision of the medical team.

“From now on, any COVID-19 positive patient who dies, no matter what they died of, will be counted as COVID-19 death,” Director of Health Services Dr. Aman Warr said.

Meanwhile, the state recorded, 75 new cases Director of Health Services (MI), Dr.Aman Warr informed.

East Khasi Hills recorded the most with 29 all from the others category, East Garo Hills – 27 others, West Garo Hills – 15 (armed and paramilitary forces – 11 and others – four), South West Garo Hills – two, North Garo Hills – one and South Garo Hills – one.

With the new cases the total number of active cases has gone up to 1222.

The district wise break up of the cases are – East Khasi Hills – 847 (armed and paramilitary forces – 283 and others – 564), West Garo Hills 187 (armed and paramilitary forces – 114 and others – 73), Ri-Bhoi – 68 (armed and paramilitary forces – six and others – 62), West Khasi Hills – 43, East Garo Hills – 39, East Jaintia Hills – 12, South Garo Hills – 11 (all armed and paramilitary forces), North Garo Hills – 10, South West Garo Hills – three and West Jaintia Hills – two.

The State also recorded, 25 new recoveries, Ri-Bhoi – 10 (one from the armed and paramilitary forces and others nine), East Khasi Hills – four all from the armed and paramilitary forces, North Garo Hills – four, West Garo Hils – four (three armed and paramilitary forces and others one), South Garo Hills – two and West Jaintia Hills – one.

The samples sent for testing till Thursday afternoon are 81012, samples which yielded negative results are 78431 and results awaited are 452.

The total number of citizens who has entered the State from within the country and outside are 31, 425.

The total number of recoveries till date are 899.
