Meghalaya records one death, 136 fresh cases and 104 recoveries in last 24 hours

SHILLONG, Oct 25: Meghalaya recorded its 81 fatality due to COVID-19 after a 27-year-old woman succumbed to the virus on October 23 at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

According to Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War the deceased Manibala Debbarma is a resident of Sayadachara, Kumarghat, North Tripura. She was admitted in NEIGRIHMS on October 19 and expired on October 23 at 3.32 pm.

Dr. War informed that the cause of death was refractory septic shock with severe sepsis, COVID-19 Positive with auto immune haemolytic anaemia with chronic kidney disease.

The Director of Health Services informed that since she tested positive in Shillong, hence death is being counted in Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, for the first time in days the number of fresh cases outnumbered the new recoveries.

Dr. War informed that the state recorded 136 new cases and 104 new recoveries. The active cases in the state now stands at 1605 and total recoveries is 7228.

Of the fresh cases, Ri-Bhoi reported the maximum with 76, East Khasi Hills with 39, West Garo Hills eight (armed and paramilitary forces five, others three), East Jaintia Hills seven, North Garo Hills three, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills one each.

The district wise break-up of the cases in the others category are – Ri-Bhoi health worker – one, returnee – one, high risk contacts – 15, NEPA cluster 59, East Khasi Hills – returnee – one and high risk contacts – 38, West Garo Hills -high risk contacts two and screening purposes – one, East Jaintia Hills – high risk cases – five and random testing – two, North Garo Hills – high risk contacts – three, South Garo Hills – high risk contacts – one, South West Garo Hills – health worker – one and West Khasi Hills – high risk contact – one.

Of the new recovered cases – East Khasi Hills recorded 73, West Garo Hills nine, East Jaintia Hills eight, South Garo Hills five, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills two each and Ri-Bhoi one.
