Meghalaya records one more COVID-19 death, recoveries outnumber fresh cases

Shillong, Oct 20: For the second day in a row Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded, more recoveries than new COVID-19 cases, the health authorities informed.

As per the health authorities report, Meghalaya recorded 57 new cases, 105 recovered and one died of the virus.

The deceased has been identified as Slinsibon Sawian 60 years of Lawmali, Shillong.

She was declared brought dead to Ganesh Das Govt MCH Hospital, Shillong on October 19 at 12.20 am, she was declared to be COVID-19 positive on the same day. However, health authorities said that her diagnosis is not known.

With this the number of active cases is now 2020, the total recovered cases is 6497 and the total number of deaths stands at 76.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that of the new cases the maximum 26 were recorded in East Khasi Hills district, 17 in West Garo Hills, three each in East Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills, two in East Jaintia Hills, one each in North Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi and South West Garo Hills.

Dr. War informed that of the 105 new recovered cases recorded on Tuesday, 66 (armed and paramilitary forces three, others 63), in East Khasi Hills, 15 in Ri-Bhoi, 14 in West Jaintia Hills, six in West Garo Hills, two In East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills.

He also said that the number of samples sent for testing till date is – 189783 of which 181190 samples tested negative and the number of entrants into Meghalaya till Tuesday was 50407.
