Meghalaya records one more COVID death, fresh recoveries outnumber new cases

SHILLONG, Oct 22: Meghalaya on Thursday recorded one more COVID-19 death, 99 new cases and 307 new recoveries, health authorities informed.

With this the number of deaths have gone up to 78, the number of active cases is now at 1661 and the total recovered cases stands at 6981.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War, informed that the deceased has been identified as Fullmai Dhar (37) of Nartiang, West Jaiñtia Hills district.

She was admitted to the Maternity and Child Hospital which was converted to a COVID wing in Jowai Civil Hospital, on October 21 at 1 am, but she passed away the same day at 12:20 pm.

“Her cause of death is cardiac pulmonary arrest with COVID-19 with acute respiratory distress syndrome and Type I respiratory failure,” Dr. War said.   

The Director of Health Services also informed that the new cases recorded on Thursday are – 46 in East Khasi Hills, 29 in R-Bhoi, 12 in West Garo Hills, seven in South Garo Hills, two in West Jaintia Hills, one each in North Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills.

He also informed that the State saw 307 new recovered cases with 204 in East Khasi Hills (armed and paramilitary forces one, others 204), 51 in Ri-Bhoi (armed and paramilitary forces one, others 50), West Garo Hills (armed and paramilitary forces 18, others 10), South Garo Hills eight, South West Khasi Hills seven, South West Garo Hills three, East Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills two and East Jaintia Hills one.

The samples sent for testing till date are 193190 out of which 184470. The number on people who have entered the State till date are 50997.
