Meghalaya records three more COVID deaths, toll rises to 73

Shillong, Oct 15: Meghalaya on Thursday recorded three more COVID-19 deaths, 173 new cases and 64 recovered from the virus. 

With this the total number of people who have succumbed to the virus in the state has gone up to 73, the total active cases now is 2445 and the total number of people who have recovered from the virus stands at 5646.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that three deaths are of – Jubita Thabah 65 of Lum Dorbar, Upper Lumparing. Dr. War informed that she was admitted to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on September 27. She tested negative when tested through RTPCR. However, when she was exposed to a positive person she was again tested on October 4 and became positive, Dr. War informed and subsequently succumbed to her illness on October 13 at 10 pm. 

The cause of death was type I respiratory failure with sepsis and COVID -19 pneumonia. The Director of Health Services also said that she was also suffering from hypothyroidism, anemia and chronic liver disease. 

He also informed that Sagar Barua, 82 of Thana Road with a past history of diabetes with fever was declared brought dead to Nazareth Hospital on October 14 at around 8 am. 

Meanwhile, Basuk Thabah, 42, of Lawsohtun, Block I was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on October 11 with severe anemia and was COVID-19 positive. 

Dr. War said that she died of cardiac arrest on October 14 at 4:30 pm. 

He also informed that of the new cases, East Khasi Hills had 124 (armed/paramilitary forces three and others 121),   West Garo Hills – 26, East Garo Hills – five,  Ri-Bhoi five, East Jaintia Hills – four, South Garo Hills – four, West Jaintia Hills four and North Garo Hills – one. 

Meghalaya also had 64 new recovered cases – East Khasi Hills – 41, West Garo Hills – 13, Ri-Bhoi – five, East Jaintia Hills – three and South West Khasi Hills – two. 

Dr. War also informed that the samples tested till date are 181246 of which 173082 we’re negative. The number of people who entered the state till date are 48,651.
