SHILLONG, Sep 18: Meghalaya on Friday recorded two more COVID-19 deaths taking the toll to 34, with 89 new cases and 95 recoveries.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed the first death was that of Jamuna Sunar (44), of Pinewood Quarters, Shillong. She died at around 9:20 am at Nazareth Hospital.
“The deceased died of COVID-19 and also had co-morbidities like renal failure, hypothyroidism and hypertension,” Dr. War said.
The second person who succumbed to the virus was Anjali Barua, 60, of Laitumkhrah, Nongrimmaw.
According to the Director of Health Services, she was declared brought death to Nazareth Hospital on September 18 at around 12:45 pm.
“Her samples were taken and was to be COVID-19 positive,” Dr. War said.
Meanwhile, of the 89 new cases, East Khasi Hills accounted the most with 70 (armed and paramilitary forces three, others 67, East Jaintia Hills 14, West Garo Hills two, Ri-Bhoi, South West Khasi Hills and South West Garo Hills recorded one case each. Meghalaya now has 1976 active cases.
The district wise break up of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills 1369 (armed and paramilitary forces 236, others 1133), East Jaintia Hills 279, West Garo Hills 134 (armed and paramilitary forces 56, others 78), Ri Bhoi 129 (armed and paramilitary forces 41, others 88), South Garo Hills 18, South West Garo Hills 15, West Khasi Hills 10, West Jaintia Hills eight, South West Khasi Hills six, East Garo Hills five and North Garo Hills three.
Meghalaya also recorded 95 new recovered cases on Friday, Ri-Bhoi 38 (armed and paramilitary forces six, others 32), West Garo Hills 28 (armed and paramilitary forces 14, others 14), East Khasi Hills 19 (armed and paramilitary forces 12, others seven), North Garo Hills five, West Khasi Hills three and West Jaintia Hills two. The total recovered cases in the state now stands at 2437.
The samples sent for testing till date are 129503 of which 124315 were negative and 743 reports are awaited. The state also recorded 37743 persons who entered the state till date.
