Meghalaya records two more COVID-19 deaths, recoveries outnumber fresh cases

SHILLONG, Oct 14: Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded two more COVID-19 deaths taking the tally to 70.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that, Elmo Kharsati 52, of Mawpryshong, Jongsha was admitted in Shillong Civil Hospital on September 7 and she was found to be COVID-19 positive on September 25.

She expired on October 14 at around 7 am.

“Her diagnosis is COVID – 19 Pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome with COVID-19 with Cancer,” Dr. War said.

The second death reported on Wednesday was that of Wanbet Rapsang 63 years of Mawlai Nonglum, Shillong.

She was referred from Super Care Hospital to Shillong Civil Hospital on October 13.

She tested COVID-19 positive on September 28 and was under treatment at Super Care Hospital.

She expired on October 14 at 7.30 am.

“Her diagnosis was Type I Respiratory Failure with COVID-19 Pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome, Septic Shock with Hypertension,” Dr. War said.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded 153 new COVID-19 cases, 176 new recovered cases.

Of the 153 new deaths, East Khasi Hills had 104 new infections (armed and paramilitary forces one, others 103), West Garo Hills 25, Ri-Bhoi 11, East Garo Hills six, North Garo Hills two, East Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills one each. The total number of active cases in the State is now 2339.

Meghalaya also recorded 176 new recovered cases on Wednesday, with East Khasi Hills having 139 of them, West Garo Hills 20, Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills five each, East Jaintia Hills three, South West Khasi Hills three (armed and paramilitary forces one, others two), South Garo Hills one. The total recovered cases in Meghalaya is now 5582.
