Meghalaya spent Rs 200 Cr to fight COVID-19

Shillong, Sept 25: Meghalaya government has spent more than Rs 200 crore on Covid-19 measures till now, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Friday.

“The total expenditure in the fight against the pandemic in the last nine months is more than Rs. 200 crore,” Conrad said.

The Chief Minister who is also holding the finance portfolio said overall the COVID-19 fight has put a lot of financial burden on the state and obviously it requires the system to work continuously.

The Chief Minister admitted that the “war” against the virus has been a tough battle for the government since there has been a lot of financial involvement.

“Its something that the government can’t escape because it requires a lot of work to be done and we have to look forward and to start managing things,” the Chief Minister said.

Conrad cited an example that though other states have made it mandatory for people to pay the test but in the state that is not being charged.

Moreover, the chief minister said the state will continue to work on how to improve things and to minimise expenditures.
