Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh who led a Meghalaya delegation in the Chief Minister’s Conclave of Himalayan States held in Shimla on October 5.
The theme of the conclave was “Well being of the next generation of Himalayan people.”
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan, Union Minister of State, Home Kiran Rijju, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jairam Thakur, Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, Parliamentarians of the Himalayan States and others were present on the occasion.
It was after nine years that Himachal Pradesh organized this conclave of Himalayan States and discussions were held under various themes of Agriculture, Tourism and Hydro-power.
Two MLAs Nujorki Sungoh, Rakkam A Sangma, officials from Agriculture, Tourism and MGPCL accompanied Metbah Lyngdoh.
Addressing the gathering, Meghalaya Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh stressed on the need to have a separate policy by the Government of India for all the Himalayan state.
He said its time for all the state to work efficiently towards managing climate change by means of encouraging organic farming, forest conservation and protection of ecology.
According to Metbah the conclave would go a long way and is in need of a joint strategy for development of three key sectors — agriculture, sustainable tourism and power generation.
The State Tourism Minister further said that all Himalayan states should collectively request the Centre to support them with the developmental needs.
