Shillong, Nov 24: Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations will be joining the one day country wide General Strike call on 26th November by the Central Trade Unions & Independent Service Federations of the country.
The Union has demanded for measures to control staggering price rise of all essential commodities, cash transfer of Rs 7500 per month for all non-income tax paying families, expansion of MGNREGA to provide 200 days’ work in a year in rural areas at enhanced wages and extension of employment guarantee to urban areas.
In their statement to the press MJCTU&A President Dr. M. N. Bhattacharjee also demanded for withdrawal of all anti farmer laws and anti-worker labour codes, withdraw of the circular on forced premature retirement of Government & PSU Employees.
The Union also demanded scrapping the National Pension System and provide pension to all, it demanded revival of the Public Distribution System and bringing in more essential item under PDS.
MJCTU&A added that there should be no GDT on life saving drugs and concluding stating that demands of all individual unions/associations in government, public and private sectors must be given due importance and accepted.
