Shillong, Mar 9: Mookaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh has pressed for the setting up of a police outpost at Barato and an emergency fire and service station in the area.
Taking up the issue during Question Hour, Sungoh said that Barato is prone to crimes and presently it is under Nartiang police station which is around 46 km.
The Mookaiaw legislator said that when they approached the Education department for setting up a SSLC examination centre at Barato because there are five secondary schools in those areas.
“When we approached the department for the very purpose to set the examination centre they said that it cannot be done because there is no police station nor any banks to store the question papers,” he said.
He said that children have to appear in centres which are far off from the villages.
“Considering all the need I have mentioned I request the Home Minister to speed up the process,” Sungoh said.
“Because of the points mentioned by the member the government is actively considering to set up the outpost at Barato,” Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said.
Sungoh also wants the government to set up a Fire Service Station in the area around Laskein block since there has been 21 fire incidents from 2016 to 2019.
Rymbui informed the House that the government was actively considering the setting up of Fire Service Station at Raliang.
