Moral policing: Woman assaulted for alleged affair     

SHILLONG, Apr 9: In a case of moral policing a woman, was assaulted on allegations that she was going out with a man who was not from her community.

The incident happened in Assam’s Goalpara district. The incident, has since gone viral on social media.

The video, which went viral last evening shows a group of Garo men beating up a Garo woman.

The reason for the assualt on the victim was the fact that the perpetrators believed her to be in a relationship with a non-indigenous man.

At least 12 people were arrested in the case and police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the involvement of more persons.

In the video the victim was seen being beaten up by the group while some slapped her, others kicked her and some even pulling her by the hair.

The man who the attackers alleged is going around with the woman is the driver of a vehicle which she hired from the village of Krishnai in Goalpara for ferrying her goods to her shop in Nabang in the same district.
