MPYC launches campaign for National Register of Unemployed in Meghalaya

Tura, Jan 24: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress on Friday launched a campaign of the National Register of Unemployed (NRU) in the state at the Tura Congress Bhavan.

The state campaign was flagged a day after the Nationwide launch by the Congress leadership, demanding that the Modi government create a National Register of Unemployed (NRU) to address the problem of joblessness, a bigger concern for Indian youth in light of the economic slowdown.

The objective of the NRU is to highlight record levels of unemployment within the country, which the INC said is the highest in the past 5 decades.

“We joined the campaign today to bring into focus the rising employment issue in the country and give voice to the plight of young Indians and thus the demand for NRU to focus on the real problems being faced,” said MPYC president, Richard Marak.

The MPYC highlighted the current situation stating that India’s unemployment rate stood at 7.5% with 1 in 4 graduates unable to find jobs.

“The above-mentioned statistics, compiled and released by CMIE (Centre For Monitoring Indian Economy), presents a very disturbing picture of the state of unemployment in India. These statistics also demolish the exaggerated claims of growth and development, propagated by the current Narendra Modi government,” added MPYC secretary, Yuseiviana M Sangma.

The number of unemployed people has crossed the 30 million mark with the nation currently in dire straits, according to them.

“The present government seems to be completely out-of-touch with reality. Not only has it failed in generating 2 crore jobs, as it promised, but it has constantly neglected and dismissed reports from credible institutions like CMIE, CSE (Centre for Sustainable Employment) and NSO (National Statistical Office),” they added.

Terming the obsession over NRC, CAA, demonitization and GST, the MPYC alleged that the government was treating protests with brute force despite which protests have erupted from unemployed students, out of work labourers and distressed farmers.

“The demand for formation of NRU is a response to the deplorable state of unemployment in India, which has reached at its highest level in 45 years. Hence, we can conclude that – ’45 Saalon Main Pehli Baar, Desh Main Sabse Zyada Berozgaar’,” said the MPYC.

The MPYC asserted that the youth wanted jobs not ‘Hindutva Rashtra’ which according to them will be an epitome of economic failures and superstitions.

“Naukari Ki Baat is an important initiative. India needs a NRU. India wants to hear ‘Naukri Ki Baat’ not only PM’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’. India is behind Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in unemployment stats as per UN reports. Not only jobs but also in many sectors including the happiness rankings,” said the MPYC leaders.

MPYC added that going forward every unemployed Indian could register themselves in the NRU by giving missed call on a toll-free number – 8151994411.

“The number of people giving missed calls will be constantly maintained and updated in the NRU. This register will reflect the true volume of Indians who are suffering from unemployment, due to this government’s inept and incompetent policies,” they said.
