Tura, Nov 13: Members of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) led by its president, Rirchard Marak and vice president and MDC, Stevie Marak today staged a protest outside of the GHADC building seeking payment of salaries to employees of the beleaguered Council.
Employees of the GHADC have remained unpaid for close to 2 years now and have allegedly been living wretched lives.
Meghalaya Youth Congress demands immediate release of pending 2 year’s salaries of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council employees within first week of December.
Blaming the NPP current EC and the MDA government, the MPYC tore into the leaders of the party for the current impasse, the Congress members sought an immediate release of the salaries of the pending salaries.
“The life of the employees has been thrown out of gear by the apathetic attitude, mismanagement and blatant corruption by the NPP led Council and MDA government. The non-payment of salaries has forced the GHADC employees to lead a life of misery, they struggle to find money for education, healthcare or even day to day expenses,” said Richard Marak.
Stevie Marak termed the attitude of the NPP government as totally insensitive, irresponsible.
“Their incompetency is exposed. This is inhuman, human rights violations and against the law of the land. The non – payment of and non fulfillment of genuine demands will definitely be viewed very seriously,” said Stevie.
The agitating MPYC members demanded the immediate clearance of salaries and wages of the employees.
“Don’t deprive the Right to Livelihood,” they added.
Further the agitating members sought the stoppage of illegal sale of mineral resources (illegal sale and transportation of coal, boulder stones and other resources) and to stop corruption and save public money.
