SHILLONG, Mar 29: Congress MP candidate from the Tura Parliamentary constituency, Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday asserted that there was no alternative to the Congress in the country.
Addressing election rallies in Rangsakona and Gandhipara in the state’s South West Garo Hills district, Dr Sangma urged the electorates to bring back the Comgress to power along with him as an MP.
During the rallies, the Congress candidate and former state Chief Minister said that the people of the country have suffered immensely since the BJP- led NDA government came to power in 2014.
“People have been oppressed while laws were framed that went against their interests. Had it not been for the Congress, the BJP government would have forced upon us certain rules and laws that went against the people,” Dr Sangma during his rally at Rangsakona on Friday.
Explaining about the the poverty eradication programme through NYAY (Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme), Dr Sangma urged the electorates to bring the Congress to power so that it can implement the scheme where Rs 72,000 per year would be given to 20 per cent of India’s poor benefitting 5 crore families.
Dr Sangma also claimed that it was the Congress which gave development to the state and during his tenure people were aware of the schemes that were implemented.
“Now a new government is in the state, people will judge them by their work,” said the former chief minister and leader of the opposition,” he added.
