Mukul says as CM he brought development to Garo Hills

SHILLONG, Apr 3: Congress candidate from the Tura Parliamentary seat, Dr Mukul Sangma held a series of meetings on Tuesday evening at Tura Bazar, Palm Dale, Matchakolgre to garner support for him in the upcoming MP election.

Dr Sangma spoke at length about the series of developmental works he had done during his tenure as a Chief Minister.

He said that when he was Chief Minister, leaders from different civil societies, church elders and other stakeholders approached him to address the problem of insurgency.

“Together with all the concerned citizens we have managed to bring back normalcy and peace in the state. In order to bring the developmental works in the region we all must obtain peace which we have achieved and it was no easy task but with the zeal of the people it was not a mission impossible,” the Congress leader said.

He also said that year ago when he visited New Delhi, people would ask him how many medical and engineering colleges Meghalaya had.

Dr Sangma said that he was ashamed to say that there were no medical and engineering colleges in the state as even as the state was known as the educational hub of the northeast.

He however said that during his stint as Chief Minister of the state for eight years, he brought engineering colleges, Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University in Tura, College of Architecture and Urban Planning and Medical College which are all under construction and Tura Pinemount International School.

Dr Sangma also pointed out that when in 1993 when he was first elected as MLA of Ampati when he was 27 years old he asked numbers of questions pertaining to the road to Tura via Shillong.

“So when I became the Chief Minster the first thing I did was- built Shillong Guwahati four-lane and complete it in a record time of three years. and then Shillong – Nongstoin – Tura Road, Dubhri-Phulbari NH127B,” he said.

Dr Sangma also said that he was confident that what he could have done or whatever he can present as the Chief Minister of the state he now I am dedicates myself to serve the people of Garo Hills as its MP to lend the voice at the parliament and bring development to the region.

“Make me your instrument by sending me for the MP and together we can transform Garo Hills for better,” he said.

Meanwhile, former RBI officer Beryl B. Sangma lambasted Agatha Sangma for her non performance quoting Parliamentary Research Studies.

AS per the research Agatha’s attendance was only 49 percent and number of debates was zero, and she also asked no questions.

“That’s why people started calling NPP as Non-Performing- Party and Agatha Sangma as Non Performing Person,” Beryl said.

He accused Agatha of having done nothing nor she has any credibility or capacity to do anything or speak for the people in Parliament and bring developmental works for Garo Hills.

“She has proved herself to be incapable of holding this post of MP. While Dr. Mukul Sangma has been nationally known as incumbent Chief Minister and the doer and we need people like him to represent us in the parliament,” Beryl said.
