SHILLONG, Oct 4: State Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma has alleged that in the last few months, a number of haphazard and irregular transfers of police officers across different ranks and files have been affected.
“This development has vitiated the environment in the whole police organisation, as most of these transfers have been an outcome of political interference,” Dr Sangma said in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
The Meghalaya Leader of Opposition also stated that it is imperative to note that the police organisation plays a crucial role in the whole process of “Administration of Justice”, besides the burden of various other responsibilities of attending to call of duty as per mandate of law.
“This whole action resorted to by the authorities due to political interference is in contravention of the provisions of the Meghalaya Police Act 2010, creating an unhealthy precedence which will have a serious bearing in the whole process of Administration of Justice,” Dr Sangma said.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader has also urge the Chief Minister to convene a discussion related to the matter indicated above in the State Security Commission at the earliest.
