It may be mentioned that in the morning of May 31, an altercation between a woman who lives in the colony and a bus driver escalated later that day, leading to curfew being imposed in the city early on Friday morning.
Later in the afternoon, the member of the NCM, Manjit Singh Rai, met Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma and senior government officials to assess the ground situation in Shillong city.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Rai hoped that the situation in Shillong will return normalcy within a few days.
“I will be submitting the report before the commission on the current situation in Shillong by tomorrow,” he said.
The member of National Commission for Minorities however said that it was not viable to resettle residents for someone living there for a long time.
According to the member the forefathers of the present residents lived there for more than 100 years.
“It is not feasible to relocate someone from the present location to another place,” Rai said.
“The State Government has handled the law and order situation very well,” Rai added.
