National Unity Day observed in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 31: Meghalaya today observed national unity day in memory of freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the iron man of India.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to twitter to remember the leader stating, ‘On #NationalUnityDay we remember the leader who played a significant role in the political and cultural integration of India. We salute Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his efforts towards building a united India.’

Meghalaya Chief Secretary, M. S. Rao, IAS administered the Pledge on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at the front courtyard of the Main Secretariat Building, Shillong.

Police personnel in all districts of the state observed national unity day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary.

Police persons across the state pledged to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation.

Introduced in 2014, national unity day is an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country.’
