NCP demands NIA probe into Jonathone’s killing

SHILLONG, Mar 20: The Meghalaya Unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday urged the Meghalaya government to hand over investigation into the killing of its candidate Jonathone N Sangma to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

“The involvement of the underground militants with political nexus should be brought to light and the culprits should be booked as per law,” the state unit of the NCP said.

The NCP also stated that since his death the party has been demanding a NlA probe.

“Since your good self is heading the Government, you are humbly requested to kindly send the report/recommendation to the Central Government for a NIA Probe under section 6 (2) as provided in the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008,” the NCP said.

The party also said that the family members of Late Jonathone N Sangma will not be in peace if the culprits involved are not bought to book and so also the people of the State wants justice.

Jonathone (43), was killed along with four others in a bomb explosion on February 18. He was the NCP candidate from Williamnagar constituency in East Garo Hills. Reportedly, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed him at Samanda in Williamnagar when he was returning from a poll campaign.
