NEHU Teachers Assn. submits memorandum to the President requesting intervention

Shillong, Jul 30: North-Eastern Hill University Teachers Association have submitted a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind requesting his intervention in the alleged partiality in promotion of NEHU teachers under Career Advancement Scheme by the Vice-Chancellor Professor S.K. Srivastava.

NEHUTA President Professor X.P Mao and General Secretary Dr. Marbhador M. Khymdeit, in the memorandum alleged that the incumbent VC played a pick and choose game by promoting some, while ignoring the rest.

“The case in point is correction of wrong dates of eligibiltiy for promoted Professors, in which Prof. S.K.Srivastava only partially implemented ‘One Man Committee’ led by Prof.K.Ismail’s recommendation for correction of dates of eligibility in case of some favourite teachers, while leaving rest in the lurch,” they stated.

NEHUTA stated that for some teachers correction of dates of promotion have been made under UGC Regulations 2000. But under UGC Regulations 2010 some teachers were called for re-assessment on 31.07.2017 and 01.08.2017.

“The results of a few were cleared while the assessed result of some teachers were never announced till date. Further, the remainder teachers’ re-assessment is also never done till date,” it read.

The association stated that in the case of teachers covered under UGC regulations, 2010, the committee recommended reassessment.

Prof. S.K.Srivastava reportedly conducted the reassessment by convening a committee. However, at the end of the process, Prof.S.K.Srivastava decided to refer to the cases of reassessed teachers to the UGC for its opinion.

NEHUTA informed that Prof. S.K.Srivastava did not send the names of recommended candidates to the UGC or decide the date for reassessment.

“So, some Teachers are promoted, but on a wrong date and the procedure for correction of the date remains half-way incomplete and have been reportedly kept in abeyance for indefinite period by Prof. S.K.Srivastava,” NEHUTA stated.
